Following the 2008 smash The Red Album, Geffen Records has put together this Weezer refresher course for the holiday season, covering songs from The Blue Album, The Green Album, and Maladroit. Primarily of value for younger fans who’ve caught up with the group in the latter 2000s, the disc is worthwhile for the opening one-two punch of “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So.” It also includes two of their finest second-decade tracks, “Beverly Hills” and “Island In The Sun.” Considering the legitimate hits left off this six-pack, it’s a testament to Rivers Cuomo and Co.’s remarkable chart-topping chemistry.
Twenty outtakes recorded for Stax between 1960 and 1968, a number of which are gems. In fact, it is really surprising just how good the unreleased Stax stuff was in the '60s. "Loneliness," "Sweet Sensation," and "It Ain't No Easy Thing" all could have been superb singles.
